Tips to Storing Your Seasonal Clothing

When the autumn cold comes on strong, families will need to put away their summer clothing and bring out their sweaters, long pants, and hats. The shorts and tank tops that were worn daily during the heat of summer must be stored in a safe place until they are needed again. Most men and women will want to use plastic storage boxes or even space bags. These containers allow for an ease of organization. As long as the summer clothes are folded nicely, they should remain free of wrinkles until spring arrives the following year.

Large boxes with sealable plastic lids will work the best. These kinds of boxes can be found at most home improvement stores. Some individuals choose to buy three or four boxes, each with a lid of a different color. One box might contain only shorts, while another might contain t-shirts. Still a third could contain swimsuits and any other articles of clothing that are often used at the pool or the beach. All boxes should be carefully labeled so that they can be found again when the occasion calls for them.

Whenever clothes are to be packed and stored for several months, families will want to give them a good cleaning. Removing dirt, grime, and dust means that the clothes will be fresh and ready to go again later on. Some may even choose to vacuum the clothing to remove all traces of foreign particles. If certain shorts or pants have become heavily soiled during the hot weather, then they should be given a full wash in the washing machine. This way, there are no leftover smells radiating from one particular clothing item.

Some families may even choose to simply store their clothes on their closet shelves. Those people who have bigger bedrooms will have more of an opportunity to do this. This is also a good idea for residents of climates where the temperature does not change incredibly much during the year. If a particular spell of cold or hot weather strikes, families can easily grab what they need from their closets.

If sealable plastic boxes cannot be found or purchased, then cardboard boxes might serve as a substitute. Cardboard, however, should generally be taped up so that no little critters get inside. Ultimately, family members will want to ask each other what they prefer to pack away and what they prefer to keep out.
